Big gambling brands removed from Apple iTunes

Apple App Store

In a major move by Apple, several big name gambling companies have had their real-money gambling applications removed from the iTunes store. Some of the biggest brands that were hit include William Hill, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Betfred and Coral.

The change in Apple's policy comes in the wake of the recent update to UK gambling law which requires proof of a British operating license. Companies were given a 21-day advance warning to comply with the change prior to being removed from the App Store.

The removal of these big brand Apps has no doubt shaken the industry and created a lot of frustration and confusion. The App removals are also especially confusing in light of the fact that many of these big brands thought that they had indeed complied with the new regulations.

Although the crackdown at Apple seems to have mostly effected sportsbook operators, it is yet to be seen how this may effect bingo apps, if at all.
